South Dakota Nurse Practice Act
The Nurse Practice Act is comprised of state laws and rules that govern the practice of nursing. A license to practice nursing is a right and responsibility and is granted by the state to protect those who need nursing care. Licensed nurses have a duty to know and understand the Nurse Practice Act.

Administrative Rules
The Nurse Practice Act's administrative rules are promulgated by the Board with subsequent approval by the Interim Rules Review Committee of the state legislature. They are intended to provide additional guidance on the codified laws enacted by the legislature. Once adopted and after a rule becomes effective, a rule has the full force and effect of law.
