New APRN Application

To practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in SD in the role of a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) you must possess a license or a temporary permit issued by the Board of Nursing.  A license or temporary permit is required before you can begin orientation at your place of employment.

Create a Nurse Portal Account

You will need to create a SDBON Nurse Portal account to access the APRN license applications (CNM, CNP, CRNA, and CNS). Additionally, you must hold an active South Dakota RN license or a multistate compact RN license for APRN licensure. If needed, the South Dakota RN application may also be accessed in the Nurse Portal account. Plan on 4 – 6 weeks for all required forms to be received and reviewed by the Board for approval. You may track your application status in your Nurse Portal account.
