Training Program Information
Initial Approval Requirements
The following must be met:
- A training program must be no less than 20-hours in length, 16-hours of theory and 4 hours of clinical/lab.
- A Board-approved curriculum must be used.
- Only an approved RN instructor, who has a minimum of two years of clinical experience, is allowed teach the theory portion of the course.
- Only approved RN or LPN instructors, who have a minimum of two years of clinical experience, may teach the clinical/lab portion of the course.
- Instructors must be onsite and in the immediate area of the student to directly observe and supervise the student's performance.
- An approved RN instructor must evaluate student competence using the Board’s Clinical Skills Checklist.
- At a minimum, an RN must re-validate competency of the Medication Aide annually.
Registered medication aides (RMA) are not allowed to teach, supervise, or shadow students.
Program Applications
- Download the Program Instructions, Application, & Forms to learn more about the requirements to conduct a medication aide training program (MATP).
- Download Faculty Change Application to request new faculty be approved to an approved MATP.
Program Renewal
- Approved programs must renew every 2 years by April 30 of even-numbered years.
- If you are a primary instructor, you may access and complete the Renewal Form through April 30th, 2026.
- Be advised that the board may audit a program to ensure compliance with the standards.
