Board of Nursing Members
The Governor appoints 7 RNs, 2 LPNs, and 2 public members according to the qualifications listed in SDCL 36-9. Members must be citizens of the United States and residents of South Dakota for two years before beginning a term of office.
RN Member Qualifications

Licensed in good standing as RNs in South Dakota;

Have at least five years’ experience since graduation in the practice of nursing;

Actively engaged in nursing for at least three of the last four years preceding appointment;

At least two members must be from nursing service or practice;

At least two members must be from nursing education, one who is a faculty member or administrator of a practical nursing program and one who is a faculty member or an administrator of a RN program; and
-
At least one member who is licensed as an advanced practice registered nurse.
LPN Member Qualifications

Licensed in good standing as a LPNs in South Dakota;

Have at least five years’ experience since graduation as an LPN; and

Have been actively engaged in practical nursing for at least three of the last four years preceding appointment.
Public Member Qualifications

Cannot be appointed to any other state licensing board; or
-
Cannot be engaged for compensation in the provision of health services or the provision of health research, instruction, or insurance.
